Ex-technical difficulties:
July 27th, 2008As you can see, I’m testing some things out.
I’m not making excuses for not posting much but one reason has been that I’m not overly fond of the Wordpress web-based posting interface.
In the past I used Ecto as a desktop blogging client and it worked well for me. It’s fast and I can alt-tab to the browser to get URLs. Somewhere along the line, my hosting service implemented a security process that killed my access to the xmlrpc.php file that programs like Ecto use to access the blog for posting.
I had given up, but the introduction of an app for posting from the iPhone (without using its teeny, clunky web interface) prompted me to look more closely at why things wern’t working. So now with a solution suggested by my hosting company, the problem seems to be fixed; Ecto, Marsedit and the iPhone app all seem to be connecting to the blog.
Now I just have to find the time to post.

Dark clouds and a silver lining:
July 26th, 2008My Mobile Me email is down. Apparently I’m one of the 1 percent affected by a server problem. Thank God for gmail.
Apple has been stumbling recently and some have related this to possible health problems of Steve Jobs. I’m sure the server problem is unrelated but there is real concern that the company is too dependent on Jobs and that the health of the company and the health of the boss are one and the same. So, are the rumors of Steve Jobs’ cancer reoccurrence true?
Joe Nocera writes about how the culture of secrecy at Apple makes it hard to tell what’s going on. But read the article to the end for a hint about the truth.
